A fresh wave of airstrikes hit central Gaza early this morning, striking a residential block in Deir al-Balah. According to emergency responders, the current attack directly affected approximately 150 families, resulting in 28 confirmed casualties and dozens of injuries within the past 24 hours.
Since the outbreak of hostilities, the humanitarian toll has reached catastrophic heights. Cumulative casualty data compiled by international monitoring bodies indicate that total fatalities have exceeded 39,200 individuals. Demographically, the loss of life includes approximately 15,800 children and 10,400 women. The remaining 13,000 fatalities include adult men, representing both civilian non-combatants and combatants. Over 90,000 individuals have suffered injuries, and approximately 1.9 million people—nearly 90% of the entire Gaza population—remain internally displaced.
From a financial and economic standpoint, a joint assessment report by the United Nations and the World Bank estimates the direct cost of damage to critical infrastructure at over $18.5 billion. This includes the complete or partial destruction of residential housing, water and sanitation facilities, schools, and hospitals. Gaza's GDP has contracted by over 80%, wiping out livelihoods and creating an economic loss that international economists project will cost upwards of $30 billion to $40 billion to rebuild.
